Get it right and you'll be cool and relaxed when you make your speech
Hey, do you want to be my best man?” he said.
“I already am”, I replied.
“No, at my wedding” was the quick response.
“Yeah, of course” I said with only a small amount of hesitation.
This was to be my first stint at being a best man – if I did well I thought I’d be getting asked time and time again – think of all those stag nights, all those parties, all those…. well, you get the idea.
As the excitement of being asked had dissipated it was replace by a slight nervousness as I read through the responsibilities of a best man – getting the groom to the church on time seemed to be a highish priority – no probs I thought. Then it came to the speech – I’ve never been much of a speaker, and I knew that the best man’s speech had to be witty, without upsetting anyone…
It took me ages to piece together a half decent speech – I got a few laughs (nothing to do with my flies being undone!!!), but felt it could have gone better. My brother’s (first) wedding was a long time ago, however, a friend of mine was putting started to put a speech together a few weeks ago, and even with today’s resources, it took him ages. This, and my own experience have prompted me to create this website and I hope it helps you on your way to a perfect wedding day, whether you are a Bride, Groom, Best man or anyone giving a speech at a wedding.
Best wishes,
Stephen.
