Sample Bride’s Father Speech
Here is and example ‘father of the bride’ speech
The father of the bride’s speech is the opening speech at a wedding. As such it’s first requirement is a to give a general welcome to all the guests. He then says a few warm words about his daughter, and finally raises a toast to the newlyweds. The father of the bride’s speech should not be too long, especially if several ‘extra’ people are making speeches (as is common these days). Some humour may be used, but you are not expected to be as humourous as the best man!
You should add your own comments about your daughter in the middle ( marked *):
“Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I am Grahame, Susan’s father. As the father of the bride I have the pleasure of welcoming you to my daughters wedding. Thank you all for making time to attend.
I have been thinking about this moment with mixed feelings since Susan was a young girl. Although it is overwhelming to give your daughter away, I am pleased that she has found a man so perfect for her.
*Susan has always been a popular girl, making friends easily and not being quick to judge others.
Susan, although the thought of letting you go is difficult, I could not be happier for my little girl. I have watched you grow from a child into the beautiful lady you are today. I wish the best for you and Alex, you new husband, and I know that you will have a beautiful marriage that will last.
Alex, I am confident that you will take care of my daughter. I know in my heart that you will be the perfect match, regardless of what happens later in life.
For this reason, I would like to make a toast. Susan and Alex, may the future bring you happiness, wisdom… and children so I can be a grandfather! But seriously, I give you my whole hearted blessing and I know your will last a lifetime. I am so happy that this day has finally come.
Congratulations Susan and Alex!“
